David Lee Daniels : Black Jack Davy (US,1973,re.2011)***/**'
For an album almost entirely riding on countryblues (and "swamprock" as the label states it), the songs with well performed studio arrangements of brass, here and there some strings, piano and electric piano, guitars and not too uptempo rhythms, it succeeds to entertain well. It is not like the brightest light around but within its genre it is perfect enough to be really enjoyable. The songs are short and there's enough alternation to make it really work. If it wasn't re-released we wouldn't have missed it, but once with the go there's plenty enough in it to entertain well. The voice still gets a slight telephone effect in the remastering, but in general the sound quality still is enjoyable. Mini-LP package.
