Deuter : Aum (D,1972,re.2010)****
I would like to describe shortly this second album by Deuter. Where the first album of Deuter, “D”, showed Deuter's at its most progressive with very creative solutions with diverse instruments, the second album can be regarded as a bridge directing towards his second period, predating New age music (including the establishment of his own label, Celestial Harmonies). It was recorded in India with sounds of the beach and of the quiet and inspiring environment of Poona, also the music is pretty meditative in a breathing rhythm of the seashore, with parts of sitar with reverb effects and electric bass with tabla and Indian singing, of acoustic guitar with or without flute, of electric bass with tabla or just tabla, of an organ drone playing with distant congas, of meditative flutes, of sitar with or without singing, of tampura chords on electrified guitar followed by slowly played electric guitar with bass with lots of echoes accompanied by the seashore again, and an insects-alike quiet percussion rhythm meditation which turns into a more eastern sitar improvisation to end with. A great remastered edition with extensive liner notes, made with care and love for the music.
