Deux Accords diront : Eisherz (B,2010)****
With the first track, “Coeur”, the duo deliberately tricked me as a listener with an interesting fundament of inspiration based upon baroque and a bit later classical music, arranged with some brass instruments, moving freely with improvisation, touching known old style themes and harmonic arrangements. It is interesting to hear this move over “Neige” to more improvisational dialogues, led by the diatonic accordion duo. These extra compositional arrangements evolving to the more breathing space of improvisations of the moment, an area between folk and jazz and a more independent melodic improvisation, are a welcome and strong addition to the colour pallet of Anne Niepold and Aline Pohl, with an extra interaction between different worlds and fundaments with different compositional tempo and detail. The extra additions of arrangements by percussion and brass show mostly a broadened expression of their previous tendencies, once more moody melodic, then more breathing dynamic with a touch of jazz. As intended, there is a rather melodious story line in compositional form, a concept that succeeds in taking the listener into that journey's experience. A nice improvement since their debut some years ago.
