Die Welttraumförscher : 21 Weltraum-Standards -2CD- (CH,1981-2004)***°/**°'
Die Weltraumforscher (=“space investigators”) started as a one man band by Christian Pfluger for about ten years with various private tape and other releases. For a radiosessions a trio was formed and this trio is used for concerts ever since. Many of the early tracks on this “best of” sound instrumentally like an acoustic version produced for the Neue Welle scene (-typical German New Wave scene with more heavy electronica-), only with a sweeter voice and mood, but with attractive bass rhythms and some primitive synthesizer and rhythmbox sounds. But none of the tracks repeat any idea and have their own inspired alternation. Many tracks have layers of acoustic guitars. The arrangements are always nice, sometimes slightly funny, with a homerecorded inspiration but never with a lack of ideas, and with a attractive acid folk-related sweetness.
As bonus tracks on the first CD two video's are added.
In 1999 a remix tribute LP was released, done by 13 German artists. This particular LP is added as a second free bonus CD. For various reasons this bonus CD is attractive and important. Weltraumforscher is seen in Germany as a big and early underground influence towards the forming of typical German New Wave (=Neue Welle) sound which also evolved to some art-electronica dance scenes. So it is nice that people from various Neue Welle & electronic dance scenes contributed for this. From Belgium/Holland near border city Köln comes Mouse On Mars, Schlammpeitziger, F.X.Randomiz, Klangwart, and Harald ‘Sack’ Ziegler. From capital Berlin are Neoangin, Joe Tabu and I think Barbara Morgenstern. From the North, Hamburg comes Felix Kubin, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and Nova Huta. Minitchev is unknown to me, and 2 Forscher In Der Nacht I guess is a related project for this release. The music is interpreting Pfluger’s music with respect. First 5 tracks have nice combinations of “human” rhythms with some nice electro-acoustic balance, with here and there some funny rhythms to create such a human balance to the electronica part. Various tracks show typical elements that are to be found in Welltraumforscher music but that became standard or often used musical elements in die Neue Welle like a sequenced bass with nice jump-up-the-beat-rhythms. Some tiny funny aspects in electronica is reminiscent of the side-Neue Welle genre of teeny-bob. Also the new electronica with its complex evolutions, still with these funny danceable rhythms, are present. Very nice !
