I also would like to mention this 2004 reissue which still spanned within Elly & Rikket’s more interesting period (beware : only their first few albums are worth chasing, with Parsifal, as their most known album, having the most clear Incredible String Band influence, and also this album still hanging into that period, like a dream ; after that period they started to limit their mind and inspiration when they joined some Christian sect, making their music just naive). The first side are soft acoustic songs, child friendly ideas with some honest fantasies and their seeking still intact to something beyond normal reality, fitting with the 60s open mind. There are only little arrangements but they have a sweet pastoral, sometimes an exotic flair. Especially the side long fairytale like story (with wizard, elves and quest, a subtle mystic flair) is pretty awarding, and has more worked out pastoral arrangements. It fits pretty well with Witthüser & Westrupp’s fairytales on music, rather close to the psychedelic folk examples of inspirations in their approach. I think the LP still is more easy to find compared to the limited CD reissue, but I
privided links to some shops who still have it (it is the first two albums who urgently need another reissue, for these are the most famous in the world).
It was not the first fairytale the duo made into music. “Oinkbeest” was another remarkable effort which will still be in the mind of those who experienced the 60s in Holland/Belgium and ever heard the album. Also this one was reissued in limited edition only for a very short time. Parsifal, Maarten en Oinkbeest are whole-heartily recommended also to foreign collectors. It was a unique moment in Dutch acoustic music.
