the acid folkish neo-folk of
Falkenstein

CD (2008), CD (2010)

HeimatfolkFalkenstein : Urdarbrunnen (D,2008)**'

Falkenstein is inspired by mystic nature and ancient cult-places and old stories from southern Germany. It is mostly a solo album in neo-folk style led by strummed guitar and some electric acoustic guitar, overdubbed or dual vocals with a lead vocalist who sings in simple and limited range of melodies, celebrative inspired but still sad way, with some martial drums, and some keyboards in different colours, sometimes imitating horn or violin.

I should also mention this release of neo-folk with inspiration inspired by older German culture associations. Like most neo-folk albums the mood remains very minimal and traumatically melancholic. The limited repetitions of strummed guitars with only some pickings, low voice and only sparse arrangements (like a second female or overdubbed voice) for those who don’t understand German (and some others this) musically, this sadly can only at times compensate enough for this.
