Digitalis Industries V.A. :  Gold Leaf Branches -3CD- (UK,US,FIN,2009)°°°

OK I did not expect too much from it, but with too many good artists on it and a cheap price (probably as a support to the artists and the label) I thought this must be worth a try. But in fact I think such compilations, except for the hardest fans, won’t do the psych-folk/freefolk milieu very good. There’s so much free folk nonsense amateurism and forgettable tracks on it and I can’t think of many reasons why to support a compilation like this. Secondly, it also looks cheap with 3 CDs hardly packed together. Two weird folk tracks surely stand out, as being ok, both from the same label and origin, by The Grey Field Recordings, and a bit more normal acid folk by Xenis Emputae Travelling Band, both from CD1. Also good are the contributions by M.Jarvis & A.Jarvis and Marissa Nadler, from CD2. ON CD3 the best tracks are from Lau Nau, Terracid and Nick Castro. I know Digitalis Industries has a different taste for music, but they shouldn’t exaggerate supporting whatever-free amateurism too hard.
