Fat-Cat   Gregory & The Hawk : Moenie and Kitchi (US,2008)***°

Meredith Godreau with Mike McGuire by now have already some privately released records together (an EP with bassist Jeff Ratner and drummer Adam Christgau (from Paper And Sand) in 2006, a full cd in 2007 (with Susan Ambrose), before turning to Fat-Cat records. Here they are accompanied by Mike Doro Tachler and Adam Christgau, and are produced by Adam Pierce.

Meredith has this young sweet voice with some innocence and early reflections of a tougher world, singing at times bittersweet, with a right to dream and to communicate, like a young girl widening a small world with steps and visions towards the outside. The production to the songs shows much perfection and care, so that besides the picking arrangements are added some subtle percussion arrangements, almost orchestrated touches, and tensions of electric Cocteau Twins flavours, with more percussion. Very nice to listen to ; for the lyrics you need to visit the fan side.
