rec.1990-1997->CD

Smithsonian Rec. V.A. : (Music of Indonesia 20:) Indonesian Guitars (US,1990-1997)***''

I would like to mention and to a degree recommend this mostly acoustic guitar based album which gives some highly original, honest and rather beautiful heart-felt performances with a wide range in style but fitting well together. Many of the early tracks remind me of the poor man’s troubadour busking music of for instance Mateo Salvatore, here with dual vocals. But we also have styles and arrangements that relate to a wide variety of ethnic references, sounding slightly Asian, African, Indian or Middle Eastern. I think it was through this compilation that Drag City discovered Suarasama who delivered only one of the many highlights on this compilation. With a 30-page booklet with detailed information.
