Crippled Dick Hot Wax! Irmin Schmidt & Inner Space : Kamasutra -Vollendung der Liebe- (UK,1974,re.2007)***°
Previous classical composer Irmin Schmidt (who studied with Stockhausen and Ligeti) started to participated with Can members before becoming part of them. This commission of a soundtrack to the movie “Kamasutra, Vollendung der Liebe” is in fact an early cooperation where you can notice some of the, rather relaxed, improvised playing by the band, mixing in this case of sometimes bluesy improvisations (with exotic or more acoustic-progressive inflicted touches and shakers), exotic Indian flavours (conga, tampura) dominating in one third of the instrumentals, and the slightly more progressive sounds in half of the tracks with fuzz, flute and melodic bass. It has a good production and recalls some of Can’s outtakes on some exotic excursions especially. One highlight has a special attraction, the sexually associated song, “I’m hiding my nightingale”, which is a classic, with an effect like “Willow Song” from Wickerman. Well produced and played, very enjoyable, and often with an acid-folkish acoustic effect.
Only three songs are added, "I'm Hiding My Nightingale" (sung by Margareta Juvan), "There Was A Man" (sung by Malcolm Mooney) and "I'm Around You Everyday" (sung by Michael Karoli).
Inner Space was Can's previous name. In this line-up, Michael Karoli, Jaki Liebezeit and Malcolm Mooney we have the same members that produced Can's debute, "Monster Movie".
