the folk voice of
Karoline de la Serna

CD (2009)

Home Rec. Karoline de la Serna y Los Mapaches : Traduzca (B,2009)**°'

“Traduzca” is a song cycle collection of often light folky songs  where Karoline de la Serna looks for her Spanish roots. This embraces some Latin rhythms, flamenco flavours, Spanish folk and pop song elements, from happier to melancholic moments, this became a woman’s  journey into different sentiments and joys. You have the impression a whole storybook has been told and the journey is long and embraces sentimentally and gratefully something of her family traditions. Karim Bagilli plays flamenco guitar mostly (oud occasionally). The percussion by Frédéric Malempré is subtle and effective with Vincent Noiret on bass. The first and last track is different . The intro, “Abertura” sounds like a melancholic Middle Eastern way of improvisation tuning in into these roots like a gypsy trail of her own, musically the most adventurous and surreal moment before the human stories unfold themselves in songs.
