Morten Barfoed : No Sign Of A Sign (DK,1986-1988;re.2009)****
This is a very unusual private recording in a style focused outside time and other influences as if it were a product from the late 60s, still with the distance of not being there or anywhere. With only four track equipment and often whispery and with some reverb overdubs on vocals and layers of arrangements with guitar, often with interesting and always psychedelic sounding effects, the range is from loner folk (last and only track in Danish) over Syd Barrett flavours (2 tracks at least, but with the extra clever overdubs and arrangements), sounding more or less always psychedelic, with the reverbs especially and the clever found sound and arranged effects (on sliding acoustic guitar for instance) add a slightly stoned but surely psychedelic effect to the reality in the songs. When with handclaps and water splashing rhythms even a psychfolk flavour is noticed. And with a two step rhythm the dance is in the head. Only little percussion is noticeable, like the clapping, splashing also a metronome, a marching rhythm, a triangle are some of the tiny textures that were added. Very good.
