Ödland : Sankta Lucia (F,2011)***+
For this second full album, -the band was able to record and publish, thanks to an on line support sponsoring project-, they continue stylistically where they left us after their previous album. It is a rather long album this time with about 19 songs and 60 minutes of music. It was inspired from travelling throughout mostly Eastern Europe from the North of Italy to the North of Eastern Europe. Nice to hear as a travelling song like diary with recorded sounds from trains and environments a few songs are in English), here and there, a gypsy-trail Eastern European theme comes in. For a part we still have this ‘carnivale’ feeling, a travelling circus, romantic descriptions with old time piano, banjo, acoustic guitars, dulcimer and violin, sung by a girl lead voice playing innocent the game of travelling through life like a tourist/visitor. Here and there a story of old Europe come through, a united Europe is in fact their desire, travelling freely from country to country while discovering this unity. There are not too many changes, the story repeats itself a bit like an inner thought from a diary because they never stand still for too long, which makes the album feel a bit long too or without enough concreting destiny. A spoken word track and a small classical hint of arrangements were more than welcome to continue to watch these visions. I only wish the video clips recorded for these purposes would have been included. Still, this album is a nice completion of their works and inspirations. They have been lucky persons to have had this opportunity.
