The PickPocket Ensemble : Memory (US,2010)****
The Pickpocket Ensemble presents themselves as a contemporary chamber café music band. They touch elements that could be inspired from an East European gypsy folk band (especially in the first track), while they share different experiences of a more urbanised and classically trained nature. More folk-like they become by the use of some stomping upright bass or some leads of the violin, their use of swinging rhythms, an element of banjo just here and there. Their ears are better trained to sophistication in harmonies so that they remain classical artists becoming pickpockets of the East European traditions where luckily their names honestly places them in their own, new creative middle point of inspiration.
This is their fourth album already.
