Vaus : The Floating Celebration (US,pub.2010)**'
Lyn Vaus singing sounds a bit like Syd Barrett mixed with a Mayo Thompson sort of singing (but more Barrett). He and his band (Philip Stevenson, Nick Ruggieri and Chadwick Jones) plays a lot of instruments to make this a psychedelic album that is reminiscent of the Barrett/Floyd area, where the band shows layers of psychedelically sounding arrangements with an acoustic core of thinking, but of course also electric elements (el.guitar, lap steel guitar) and some Hammond or omnichord too, with a slight stoned swinging vibe, sometimes slightly jazzy-jammed (with a bit of sax), vaguely stoned core, relaxed and a bit vague. For a large part this remains pretty enjoyable, although Lyn’s voice can become a bit whiny near the end. For fans of post-Barrett psychedelia, this might surely appeal.
