Vera Coomans & Tom Theuns : One Night While Sleeping (B,2011)****
Where the previous cooperation was especially focussed on the interpretation of some favourite songs, where each song got a special treatment (like Trees “Garden of Jane Delawney” with a sitar arrangement for instance ; -I remember this one especially for the impression it gave on me-), this album of songs is arranged with guitar pieces in such a way this album hangs together like a song album with guitar arrangements pieces, as if derived from one vision only. Vera told me in which way she preferred to let the arrangements evolve in this direction. Like what happens always with Vera Coomans interpretations is that she does not just sing other people's songs but relives them. They become hers and they become real. Last song is with sitar also, a dark deep sad ending, especially nice that the album ends with it. In some way Vera (with Tom) succeeds once more to turn songs to gold.
The album is self financed and distributed again by the previous label since January, but not only no promotion has been offered yet, the album still isn't even listed on the label's website.
Like the previous album by the duo, recommended.
