Accordion Samurai (B,2011)**°

From a title like “Accordion Samurai” I would expect something more strategic, challenging and creative than what these 5 accordionists made from it. Never the less this is a good enough starter for a rather improvisational and melodic cooperation between the 5 accordionists, with use of dance rhythms and melodic standards and also a bit sonic use of the accordion, with arrangements of faster (one note rhythms) and slower breathings of the accordions (breathing in and out the danceable modes), with some rhythmic accents, like the imitations of the reel rhythms on a bodhran or some occasional resonance chamber percussion, or the replacement of a bass accents. In general recognisable rhythms and melodies are being arranged with not too much complicated combinations.  Having accordions only for the band sound, indeed nothing else is really needed. Although the starting themes are predictable like any roots based folk always tends to be too easily, you can feel there could come something more unique out of this if they would only have played a bit behind the first easy come to mind repetitions, naïve melodies and boom ball associations.
